Hello all,
I am living in Appleton, WI and I planted a new lingonberry bush this spring. It was doing very well until we got into the pattern of insane amounts of rain (we are at least 9 inches above normal over the since June 1st. Water pools in the yard with rain right now due to the saturation) It is near our house, so it gets full sun only in the afternoons. In the past few weeks the leaves have been turning brown. It has progressed to the point where only 1/3 of the leaves are still green.
I also have young sugar maple exhibiting brown spots on the lighter green new growth leaves, while the old growth dark green leaves are fine. In addition, one of our lilac bushes has dying leaves as well (It typically was very healthy, if sparse leave wise). Any thoughts or suggestions?

This is most likely a water issue as you have suspected. Lingonberry is susceptible to root rot from over-watering. There is no control for this that is available to the homeowner. Here is a website that will give you al the information you would ever want to know on Lingonberries and then some! http://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/html/pnw/pnw583-e/#t5 The maple may be suffering from the excess water but will probably be fine. The lilacs can be fertilized with Espoma Plant-tone, rock phosphate and limestone at the rate recommended on the bags. It sounds like you've been as wet as we have been dry!
