sweet potatoes

What will be the signs (versus white potatoes) for when it is time to harvest? Vines seem to have thrived so far, but whereas some folks have already harvested white potatoes these seem to be nowhere close, and I believe this is to be expected.
September/october?

Sweet potato foliage will keep growing as long as the weather is warm. The vines don't die back to signal time to harvest like white potato vines do but they can be harvested at any stage of maturity. You can periodically check the hills to harvest any sweet potatoes that are big enough to eat. To avoid damage to the roots, they should all be dug before the first killing frost of the season.
